A man armed with a crossbow has been shot dead by police in south London, the Met has said.
Officers responded to a call just before 05:00 GMT to a home in Surrey Quays, Southwark, where he was trying to force his way inside.
It was reported that the man, believed to be aged in his 30s, was threatening to harm residents inside the property.
The Met Police said local officers were threatened before armed police took over.
The force said the man had got inside the home in Bywater Place when he was shot. He was given first aid but died at the scene. Police are trying to contact his family.
Watchdog investigation
The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) has launched an investigation, as is standard when there is a fatal police shooting.
Det Ch Supt Seb Adjei-Addoh said: “My thoughts are with all those affected by this incident.
“I understand the local community will be concerned at the events that have taken place this morning. We will fully support the IOPC investigation into the full circumstances of what happened.”
An IOPC spokesman said: “We were notified by the MPS (Metropolitan Police Service) after the incident.
“We have sent investigators to the scene and the police post-incident procedure to begin gathering evidence.”
